Both for myself and anyone else who wants to keep up, I have compiled a list of all the feature films coming out this summer that have at least a chance of getting me in the door. Most are SF/fantasy, but one or two oddities found their way in...and any of the August ones could be pre-empted by my traveling to Nairobi to see you-know-who (stay tuned). Each will be marked through once I've seen it, and I will try to avoid posting spoilers.
May
02: Iron Man (Kicks at least 17 distinct varieties of ass; see previous post.)
09: Speed Racer (Not nearly as much ass kicked here, but better than most of the bad reviews it's gotten; I found it true to the spirit of the original and not at all as visually "headache-inducing" or narratively "incoherent" as some have said.)
16: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
22: Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
30: Sex and the City
June
06: Kung Fu Panda (judging from the trailer, it looks every bit as silly as the title sounds)
13: The Incredible Hulk
20: Get Smart
27: WALL*E
July
02: Hancock (new Will Smith sci-fi film)
11: Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Journey to the Center of the Earth (3D)
18: The Dark Knight (featuring the late Heath Ledger's first—and, as it fell out, last—performance as the Joker)
25: The X-Files: I Want to Believe
August
01: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
08: Fly Me to the Moon (CGI insects in 3D hitch a ride on Apollo 11)
15: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Lucasfilm's first all-CGI entry in the series)
29: Babylon A.D. (no relation to Babylon 5, alas)
And that's pretty much it for genre and cartoon films until November, when the studios gear up for the holiday season.
What's on your movie calendar for the next few months?
